So we have to talk about if our character is inferior or not. Which I find Lewis is a rather superior character, he does get pushed around quiet a bit but he never lets anyone break his spunk. Then again he tries very very hard to fit in. Near the beginning of the book he gets his braid cut off; by Carson of course. Even though he gets his braid cut off the rest of the white kids still don't notice him or treat him any different. He deals with absurd amounts of racism while in school. Even though he's relentlessly bullied by "The Wedgie King" he always stays strong and doesn't take any of the cruel things he told to heart.
I can kind of relate, only slightly. I was slightly bullied when I was younger; not to the extreme. The way Lewis was. I'm pretty sure every kid can relate to being bullied, for the most part. Though I think the way he reacts to his bullies makes him superior to Evan. On the other hand, Evan acts like he's a big tough guy and is very much superior to everyone else. Lewis stays very strong and exact threw out the book. I very much liked his character.
